Salamander Voyages opens formally in
Montenegro for 2019 season!
We are delighted to announce that we have secured the use of 29m gulet Sadri Usta 1 for up to 16 guests from 1st May to end September 2019
After 16 wonderful seasons of private gulet charter in Turkey and the Greek Dodecanese, the Cooke family have agreed with local experienced operators Dejan and Alessandra to offer a modified 'Salamander Experience' in Montenegro in the Adriatic, while continuing to offer exclusive private gulet charter in the Aegean on their much loved classic gulet Salamander. This is a planned expansion of a successful business, not a relocation! We love what we do and seek to spread our wings wider based on our success in Turkey.
Montenegro is a delightful small country resting between Croatia to the north and Albania to the south, with a tiny population of just 640,000. Once part of former Yugoslavia, it has carved out its own identity and is one of the fastest growing tourist destinations around with its unique mix of mountains, sea inlets and indented coastline with sandy beaches, medieval towns and monasteries. It can be crowded ashore in summer, especially on the many beaches, and being ship based avoids this perfectly. There is much to see and enjoy, and the people are friendly and helpful. The more active can enjoy mountain biking, hill walking and white water rafting while the rest of us relax!
Here's what Trip Advisor says:
"Away from the coast there are any number of gems to be un-earthed, whether relating to Montenegro's military history (it is a fascinating tale of the little guy beating off bigger and stronger armies over many centuries), religious past (surely a world record for the most monasteries in in-accessible places) or natural wonders such as Skadar Lake. Anyone going for just a 'beach holiday' will surely be missing out."
"Regardless of time of year, this is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline there can be, with in-numerable opportunities to be in a setting usually only seen in the holiday brochures. Ice blue seas, sandy coves set into the mountains, providing a contrast of geography that must be very unusual."
"The locals are wonderful. Despite any language barriers they will put themselves out to help and the overall service standards are above the norm."
Montenegro and the Salamander Experience
The Salamander inclusive ‘no surprises’ package will undoubtedly work well here, adapted for the different culture, food and shore activities/sights. The privacy of your own exclusive comfortable floating home takes you far from the madding crowds, as it has in Turkey.
Working with local experienced and highly skilled partners we anticipate delivering an equally delightful experience, repeating all that works- excellent boat, crew, food, privacy and local knowledge, but ringing the changes to take advantage of all that is on offer onshore. We can offer a choice of activities or excursions, be they mountain biking, a spa experience or a visit to a local winery.
Sadri Usta 1 is a 29 metre gulet with a transom stern. This allows space for 2 more cabins and a bigger aft deck by sacrificing the beautiful traditional rounded stern of Salamander. She has 8 en suite cabins for up to 16 guests We price for 12 and we add or deduct €300 per 'empty space' against a full complement of 16, but with a maximum deduction of €1200. Your 'ship' will be re-equipped with bedding, towels etc., to the Salamander standard for 2019, and is undertaking a major refit over this winter before leaving Turkey for Montenegro.
Montenegro is more expensive than Turkey with crew salaries, food, and drink, laundry and harbour dues all costing more. Despite this our prices are highly inclusive and very reasonable compared with neighbouring Croatia.
Your extras are just your flights, travel insurance, 4 dinners ashore and crew tips. We cover airport transfers (Tivat), all other meals to an excellent standard, beers, local wines and soft drinks, port charges, fuel, crew costs etc.,
Our normal 1 week voyage with visit all 4 bays in the Gulf of Kotor and travel down the Montenegrin coast to almost the Albanian border visiting the many attractions along the way. This area is steeped in medieval history and places to visit include the historic old town of Kotor. Contact us for more details on itineraries.
